A Saturday Spent: selling dog treats

Last weekend I spent my Saturday selling dog treats at a local park as part of a fundraiser. I didn’t exactly make much but it was a fun experience and I’m planning to set up another booth in Jonesborough, Tennessee later in the summer to see how my treats fair at a festival there.

I spent a good bit of time coming up with two new treat recipes and even more time cutting out and baking treats for hours the night before the fundraiser. I made the apple, oat, and peanut butter treats that I shared here >treats. I also had Carrot and Flaxseed treats and Chicken and Cheese biscuits. (I’ll post recipes later)

After selling dog treats for a few hours we headed to get some yummy German food and watch The Lucky One, yes, I did go see that movie. I’m not even ashamed about it.  All in all I’d say it was a successful and fun day.

How have you been spending your Saturdays?

Puppy Love: First Year

I’m sure you’ve heard or seen about my dog Delilah by now, because I’m kind of obsessed with her. Well, she and I have officially been together a year (and a few days) now so this post is dedicated to her. She’s such a delight and I love her a ton. You could not find a better dog if you tried.

To check out Lou’s adoption story you can read it here –delilah

I hope you have had a great day.

What I Wore: the most perfect color

I don’t know how it happened but I’ve ended up with so many things in this sort of peachy, coraly, pink kind of color lately. That color pallet is quickly becoming one of my very favorite things and this dress is one of my top 5 purchases in that color family. This dress is comfortable and I feel cute and pretty without putting forth any effort when I’m wearing it.

Outfit Details: Dress, Belt, and Bracelet – forever 21, Tights – target, Shoes – old navy

I hope you have a lovely day

A Saturday Spent: cooking out with friends

A couple weekends ago I spent my Saturday afternoon/evening cooking out with friends and playing croquet in a yard that was certainly not meant for playing croquet. It was such a fun night. I have precious friends. Here are some pictures from that afternoon.

Heather made this killer punch. I’m not sure what exactly was in it aside from champagne and fresh strawberries but my oh my it was good.Delilah enjoyed her first game of croquet.

Southwestern egg rolls!

Because you really should have argyle socks on hand when you’re playing lawn sports.

four layer strawberry cake. ummm…yum.Delilah made a new best friend.

My favorite.

Happy Monday!

Recipe: Chocolate Chocolate Cake

First of all let me tell you that I LOOOOOVE chocolate cake. That being said chocolate cake seems to have a tendency to be kind of dry and I’m fairly picky about my frosting so if I’m picking out a cake a lot of the time I’ll go with vanilla because it just tends to be more consistent, I have no idea why but that just seems to be my experience with things.

I made this recipe for a friend a few weeks ago and I just had to share it! This chocolate cake is crazy good! I’m not one to brag on my recipes too often because I always feel like there is room for change and improvement but on this cake I will not change a thing when making it, it’s too good! The cake is super moist and the buttercream is my all time favorite frosting. If you have some time I highly recommend whipping this up or making cupcakes from this recipe because to be honest, if you like chocolate at all, you gotta try this! I mean you don’t have to make it, but I you probably should. Just saying.

For the cake you’ll need: 1 cup of butter, 1 3/4 cups of sugar, 3 eggs, 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract, 1 1/2 cups of milk, 2 1/2 cups of all purpose flour, 6 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 1 1/2 tablespoons of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the milk, mixing just until incorporated. Pour batter into prepared pans ( I made a 3 layer cake)

Bake in the preheated oven at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool. ( I throw the layers into the freezer to set up quickly and so their ready to frost)

For the frosting: I used this chocolate buttercream recipe but added 1/2 a cup of extra powdered sugar and instead of milk I used 4 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream to make it extra delicious and creamy.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I did!

What I Wore: denim with everything

outfit details: skirt: modcloth, vest and shirt: forever 21, sunglasses: aerie, shoes: urban outfitters

This denim vest is my new favorite thing. I’ve been wearing it with pretty much everything and it’s sure to be the staple of my summer wardrobe since it goes with almost everything in my closet.

Do you have any pieces that you’re currently obsessed with?

Orange Sugar Cookies:

I originally picked up this recipe from this blog. I altered it a bit, for instance I didn’t have orange extract or vanilla paste on hand so I used vanilla extract and substituted the orange extract for fresh orange juice. I also added at least twice the amount of orange zest to the dough and a good amount of orange zest in to the glaze as well.

These cookies were light, cute, and delicious and they were fun to make. the glaze was especially delicious, plus it would be really simple to change the recipe to a different flavor, like lemon, strawberry, etc. and they would still be really delicious. I’m thinking about making a wide variety of these, they would make and incredibly cute addition to gift baskets or to take by themselves to a cookout or something.

I hope you all had a great weekend!
