July-August goals recap

Toward the middle of July I made a lists of goals for myself to finish or attempt before the end of August. My plans (as they usually do) changed a lot and I ended up moving to a new house in August so some the things on my list were pushed back, taken off completely or just didn’t get done. I like giving myself a list. Even if everything doesn’t get done it’s nice to have around to keep yourself motivated and always moving forward.

Here’s a recap of my list:

  • organize…everything. Get rid of clutter, downsize a little. – Done! Moving gave me extra motivation to do this.
  • take a trip to IKEA. – Sadly, this did not happen. Maybe next month!
  • donate clothes. – Done! Twice I think.
  • take one (maybe two) more roadtrips. – This did not happen. I really wanted to go and I had about 15 different ideas but I just couldn’t justify spending the money once I found out I was moving and had to get ready for school as well.
  • develop film from the duaflex. – I feel like a real slacker for not doing this one. I thought about it alot. ha! This will be going on another list soon.
  • finish two sewing projects. – I ended up finishing 5 different sewing projects and this month I’ve already made two dresses. yay!
  • throw a couple of parties. – I planned a party, but ended up cancelling it because of the move. I want to have a bonfire and smore’s roasting party sometime soon though! The weather is becoming just perfect!
  • read two books – Done!
  • spend a day at lake James. – Nope.
  • see Moonrise Kingdom. – I saw it twice.
  • see to Rome with Love. – It was playing an hour away from us for about a week and then they stopped showing it. I missed out.
  • make a budget for the Fall. – Done!
  • make a schedule for the Fall. – Done!
  • try 4 new recipes. Done!
  • take Emma swimming. – This happened quite a bit after we went the first time. She kept saying “Trish, we go fimming pool today?” you can’t resist that. Especially since she pronounces the sw sound as an f.
  • go to the drive in one more time- Nope.
  • Be Optimistic! – I did really well being optimistic until I got walking pneumonia that lasted for the first two and a half weeks of school, it really put a damper on things.

What I’ve been Reading

I may have found my new favorite book. Though, if  you’re anything like me you absolutely fall in love (and obsess a little) over whatever good book you’ve just finished reading. However,I really think this may be it – my favorite book….well at least for now.

The book is “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky and let me tell you – and to top off my new book high I just found out that they have made it in to a movie! The Premiere is in late September and it’s starring Emma Watson so I really don’t see how this could be bad. I’m not going to really tell you anything about because I’d like for you to go look in to it for yourself and hopeful fall in love too.

In addition to my new obsession book I’ve also starting reading “The Friday Night Knitting Club” and as soon as I finish that I have “Human Voices” on deck. I’d like to be reading some just-for-fun book for the rest of the year and hopefully carry the habit in to next year as well, we’ll see how it goes. Wish me luck.

Have you been reading any thing good lately?

Goals, Lists, and Things to Come

This week has been rainy, which I’m totally thankful for because previously it was like 105 degrees everyday and all of our beautiful Tennessee green was becoming brown. I’ve also been sick which is kind of a bummer but there’s been time to make lists, do a lot of thinking, and a bit of reading which has been nice. I’m setting some goals for the fall and trying to enjoy my last weeks of Summer as school is right around the corner and while I’m excited to be going back I’m a little nervous, silly I know, I’ve been in college for 3 years previous to this and I’ve always made decent grades and been well-liked by my professors but as I’m going rounding out my last two or three semesters I feel a greater need to excel since taking time off, it’s probably a good thing and hopefully I can keep up these high standards for myself over the next year. But, getting back to Summer, I’ve made up a small list of things I’d like to do over the next 6 weeks before my life is filled with a more strict routine and less chill time.

  • organize…everything. Get rid of clutter, downsize a little.
  • take a trip to IKEA.
  • donate clothes. I have some that I could part with and probably should part with.
  • take one (maybe two) more roadtrips. It just seems like a good thing to do.
  • develop film from the duaflex. I took photos in England with a duaflex II that belonged to my great grandmother and I can’t wait to see them!
  • finish two sewing projects. I’ve already finished one!
  • throw a couple of parties. A bonfire is certainly in order.
  • read two books
  • spend a day at lake James. It’s close to Asheville and it’s a lake that’s set up more like a beach and much cleaner than others too.
  • see Moonrise Kingdom. Done.
  • see to Rome with Love.
  • make a budget for the Fall. I started using the envelope system for money in the spring and I need to make some adjustments.
  • make a schedule for the Fall.
  • try 4 new recipes. Let me know if you have suggestions!
  • take Emma swimming. this isn’t on the list in the picture but I’ve added to that list since those photos were taken.
  • go to the drive in one more time!
  • Be Optimistic! This is a big one. I want to try my best to make the most of everything and really have a positive attitude despite some not so awesome things that have been going on.

Happy Thursday!

Welcome Home

Well, it certainly has been awhile, hasn’t it?  I’m working on getting back in the swing of my normal day-to-day life after being on a type of  hiatus from my usual. I went to Bonnaroo for 5 days and then turned around and spent a couple of weeks in the UK, which was lovely. I saw so much art and was incredibly inspired to go back to school with renewed passion and excitement for what I hope to create, during my time away I also gained extra vision for my life and what I should be striving for. It was a good, hard, emotional kind of month.

As I mentioned, I’ll be going back to school to finish up my last year as a student this fall after my year off and I’m making goals and plans (that may or may not actually happen) for myself over the next 2-14 months. I’m currently planning a few parties and striving to be a little more social this year as I’ve seen myself being pretty reserved since last fall. Overall, I’m enthusiastic and hopeful for the things to come and I’ll be making steps to amp up the blog and be super consistent with my posts along with everything else I’m thinking up!

Thanks for reading!

Lists: lots and lots of music

Posted on

One of my goals this year was to go and see a lot of bands and art exhibits. I usually see quite a few but I really wanted to make it a priority to go to as many as possible this year, so to have a frame of reference I made a list of bands that I pretty much need to see live (preferably by the time I’m 25). Now this doesn’t mean that I’m not going to see bands that aren’t on the list because I definitely am! but I enjoy making lists and it’s fun to plan mini trips to go see all of these bands.

So far this year I’ve seen 7 bands, only one from the list, but it’s been super fun so far and We’re headed to Bonnaroo in about a month and I can’t even tell you how pumped I am about that! I’ll keep you posted on how the list is coming as we venture to more shows throughout the year.

Have a great weekend!
